National Reference Points - introduction

In every country (European Union, European Economic Area and candidate countries), a  Quality Assurance National Reference Point (National Reference Point)  brings together existing relevant bodies and involves the social partners and all stakeholders concerned at national and regional levels, in order to ensure the follow-up of initiatives.

The National Reference Points have expertise and are linked to the particular structures, practices and requirements of each Member State.

The National Reference Points are part of the EQAVET Network.

Their main functions are:

  • to keep a wide range of stakeholders informed about the activities of EQAVET
  • to provide active support for the implementation of the EQAVET’s work programme
  • to take concrete initiatives to promote further development of the Reference Framework in the national context
  • to support self-evaluation as a complementary and effective means of quality assurance which allows the measurement of success and the identification of areas for improvement in respect of the implementation of the work programme of EQAVET
  • to ensure that information is disseminated to stakeholders effectively

The role of the National Reference Points is both to establish connections between the European approach and national assurance frameworks and to be a catalyst for developing a culture of quality assurance in Member States.
