About this Organisation:

Established June 15th 2004, the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training is responsible for the development of primary and secondary education and training, and is the executive agency for the Ministry of Education and Research. Its objective is to ensure that all pupils and apprentices receive the high quality education and training they are entitled to. The Directorate’s 250 (approx.) employees supervise education and training and the governance of the education and training sector, including the apprentice system, as well as Acts of Parliament and regulations.

The Department for VET seeks to create and maintain a structure and content to the VET in order to meet the needs of the working life. Hence its responsibilities are two-fold: firstly, the coordination of all the activities on VET and secondly, the contribution of information and development work in relation to the other departments’ tasks. The Department is further responsible for the secretary role of the National Council for Vocational Education and Training, and the nine vocational councils. The councils represent the formalised cooperation with the different stakeholders in Norwegian VET.
