Poland - Assuring the quality of learning outcomes: using learning outcomes to describe qualifications which

Since December 2015, market qualifications have been included in Poland’s Integrated Qualifications System (IQS). Market qualifications, based on learning outcomes, are awarded outside the general, vocational and higher education systems. The case study focuses on lifelong learning context as market qualifications are obtained through non-formal training and informal learning outside the formal education system.

These qualifications are at different levels and they are based on learning outcomes with assessment criteria. These learning outcomes need to be clear, unambiguous, obtainable, verifiable, easy to understand, and meet the needs of the labour market and society. The IQS is at an early stage of operation and there are many challenges associated with describing learning outcomes – these include quality assurance.
