Italy - Creating an information management system for a national VET provider
The quality of training provided by education institutions in Italy has been subject to national and European debate for decades. The growing autonomy of schools and vocational training centres has required more internal and external control over organisational processes and results in order to affirm the efficient and effective use of public and private resources.
This case study illustrates how one VET provider, CIOFS-FP, has re-organised its various information management systems (IMS) to create a unified system which is improving performance and benefiting learners. CIOFS-FP (CIOFS Vocational training) was established in 1986 and operates in 13 Italian regions with 13 Regional Associations and 61 centres. The new IMS emphasises engagement with stakeholders to improve the quality of provision, health and safety at work, and meet the key goals of the VET provider. The new IMS is used in each of the provider’s centres and for all programmes including initial and continuing VET, lifelong learning, and school and work-based provision.
